What Types of Trimming Are There?
Because products formed through heat molding usually have rough edges around the perimeter, a trimming process is required to make the finished product more refined. Trimming is generally divided into flat trimming and contour trimming. Flat trimming leaves a small edge, while contour trimming removes all edges completely. Different trimming methods can be selected according to product requirements.

01.Flat Trimming
This method leaves a small margin along the edge, usually about 1.0–1.5 mm. It has a relatively low cost, as trimming can be completed with a single die-cutting operation. Suitable for regular dimensions and mass-market applications.

02.Contour Trimming
A borderless design where trimming follows the exact outline. Using CNC contour trimming machines, this process removes all excess edges, resulting in a more premium and visually appealing product with a completely edge-free finish.
What Types of Edges Are Used for Molded Fiber Trays?
-
Trimmed Edge
The trimming process directly removes the edges, resulting in smooth and even sides all around. This type is suitable for products with relatively regular shapes.
-
Four-Fold Edge / Two-Fold Edge
The edges of the molded fiber tray are formed by folding. Different folding methods can be applied as needed, offering good flexibility. This type is suitable for packaging products with special or irregular shapes.
-
Stepped Edge
Compared with other edge types, the stepped edge is the most effective at preventing edge warping.
-
Wrapped Edge (Skirt Edge)
The edges of the tray are curled to form pleats resembling a skirt. This structure provides better structural support and is suitable for heavier products.
What Folding Processes Are Used?
Serrated Knife Process
This process uses a knife with serrated blades to cut uniform tooth-shaped notches at the folding position.

Half-Cut (Partial Cut)
A “half-penetration” cutting line is created at the folding position, allowing the molded fiber to remain connected as a single piece.
This process can be performed together with flat trimming, making the box easier to fold without adding extra cost.

V-Groove
TA machine is used to cut V-shaped grooves, allowing the material to be folded at a precise 90-degree angle.
The V-groove mold creates a V-shaped recess at the folding position, enabling both sides of the groove to fit tightly together after folding.

Creasing (Folding Line)
TA recessed crease is formed at the folding position of the molded fiber. This can be created directly through the molding die.
