Sugarcane Hot and Cold Cup Lids by BioPak
BioPak has launched hot and cold cup lids made from sugarcane bagasse, certified to meet Australian standards (AS4738/AS5810). These lids are compostable in both home and industrial settings, sourced from plant-based renewable resources, and are PFAS-free.
The weight and thickness of these lids have been rigorously tested, and their unique snap-on feature ensures a secure fit in cups. While many paper-based products can be composted, the advantage of sugarcane bagasse lies in the fact that cultivating sugarcane does not have the same impact on the environment as tree-based paper production.
Sugarcane pulp effectively reduces carbon emissions
Both BioPak's sugarcane bagasse lids and CPLA lids are manufactured in China, where sugarcane resources are abundant and serve as a byproduct of the sugar industry, providing employment to 1070 staff members.
BioPak advocates for eco-friendly, compostable packaging and is dedicated to reducing the use of tree-based paper and fossil fuel plastics by offering environmentally friendly alternatives. This packaging philosophy aligns with OTARApack seamlessly.
The company emphasizes that transitioning from single-use plastics derived from limited fossil resources to sugarcane packaging can make a significant difference. If a large QSR (Quick Service Restaurant) were to replace 10 million traditional plastic lids with sugarcane pulp biocarbon alternatives, they could avoid 37.4 tons of fossil fuel plastics and offset 83.478 tons of carbon emissions.
